Cloisonne'
pins, also known as hard enamel pins, are the most highly prized pins
by collectors.
The recessed color wells are filled by hand with finely ground glass
pigments one color at a time and then fired at 1400 degrees in between
each coloring to a hard, glassy finish. The pin is then ground to remove
excess cloisonne' pigments and polished to create a lustrous sheen.
Colors available are limited to a select group of colors of genuine
cloisonne' glass powders. |

etched pins are produced by etching brass base metal with a design. The
recessed walls are then hand-colored with Pantone-matched soft enamel
paints.
The result is a pin with raised metal borders that define the design and
recessed colored areas. For a glossy look, the pins can also be finished
with a clear epoxy coating referred to as an epoxy dome. |

Black Nickel, or Copper. Optional sandblasting can be used to visually
separate the background from the raised surface. No color is added to this
pin. |
